How to get rid of Acne Forever | Acne treatment Options #acne #acnetreatment
greetings this is Dr Sandra cabone welcome to my second video on acne and how to get it under control thank goodness acne often causes enormous stress and poor self-esteem and can be disastrous for young people in the prime of their lives acne vulgaris is a common skin disease associated with blockage and inflammation of the sebaceous glands in my videos on acne you will learn about a holistic approach to controlling acne which addresses all the causes we will discuss hormone treatment medications the best supplements and topical treatments acne may vary from mild to severe and all possible treatments are sometimes needed to get it under control these videos will Enlighten you as I've done extensive research and I have helped hundreds of patients with acne let's start with natural antibiotics for acne the first one is in acetyl cysteine abbreviated to neck or NAC in acetyl cysteine is an excellent natural anti-inflammatory and cleanser for the skin it can help to thin the sebum so it is less likely to accumulate and form lumps in the sebaceous glands NAC can be particularly helpful for those with cystic acne NAC can help to reduce The Chronic bacterial infection in the sebaceous glands the dose of NAC is one to two capsules with a whole large glass of water twice daily in between mils it's important to take it with a whole glass of water otherwise it can be strong for those with a sensitive stomach NAC is considered an essential Medicine by the World Health Organization but interestingly it is very little used for acne which is a pity let's look at another natural antibiotic for acne this is a herb called berberine and has been studied extensively in clinical trials and has been shown to lower insulin and stabilize blood sugar levels it is also beneficial for fatty liver and by all these actions may help to reduce acne berberine can be taken in capital form in a dose of two capsules twice daily in the middle of meals another and natural antibiotic that can be useful is called bacto clear bacto clear capsules contain a combination of essential oils with antimicrobial effects these are philodendron berberine oregano Thyme and clove bacto clear can reduce the number of unhealthy bacteria in the gut sinuses and skin the type of bacteria in your gut is called the microbiome and it does influence the Skin's microbiome the dose of bacterclear is one capsule once or twice daily in the middle of Mills if you decide to try bacto clear you wouldn't also take berberine so in other words the bacto clear is an alternative natural antibiotic to the berberine and I tend to favor the bacto clear okay what about vitamins well a multivitamin is not really going to help very much but there are specific vitamins that can vitamin A is a very important vitamin for the skin and effects of sebaceous glands in a beneficial way making them less likely to become inflamed and blocked the dose of vitron a is generally 5000 international units daily with food note that you cannot take vitamin A if you are on the drug row Accutane supplements of vitamin A are available and doses are 5 000 units a day good sources of vitamin A in your diet include liver eggs and cod liver oil orange colored fruits and vegetables contain beta-carotene which must be converted into Vitamin A in the liver these orange colored fruits and vegetables are also of benefit in acne let's look at Vitamin E vitamin E can reduce acne scarring and is found in avocado which is an excellent source of this healing and anti-inflammatory vitamin nuts such as hazelnuts almonds pecans and macadamias are also good sources of natural vitamin E some people recommend vegetable oils like wheat germ sunflower safflair oil corn oil and soybean oil as good sources of vitamin E I do not agree as these highly processed oils are high in inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids and will not help your acne or your health other supplements that can often help acne are important to look at if you think your immune system needs help the minerals selenium zinc and iodine can provide the answer to strengthen it these minerals are particularly good for acne and over three to four months can bring good Improvement iodine and selenium can reduce cyst formation and infection and zinc can speed up healing the doses of these nutrients are generally higher than those found in a multivitamin and if you want advice on this please email our Consultants from liverdoctor.com orcobohealth.com.edu topical treatments these are treatments that are applied to the skin and I usually prescribe by doctors they are applied to areas of the skin affected by acne ideally these topical treatments do not need to be used long term as if you use a holistic program to treat acne this should control the cause one of the most popular and modern topical treatments is called acne attack acne attack contains clindamycin which is an antibiotic and tretinoin is an aqueous Jew that is available in tubes that last for three months it must be used regularly every night for 12 weeks as discussed acne attack contains clindamycin one percent and tretinoin .025 percent clindamycin is an antibiotic which reduces the infection in the sebaceous glands tretinoin is a synthetic version of vitamin A and works by unblocking the clogged sebaceous glands and hair follicles acnotec is a combination treatment because it combines two things and because the tretinoin opens up clogged follicles the antibiotics enter and get rid of the bacteria that cause acne breakouts combination treatments such as acetac generally work quicker and better than one ingredient treatments note that acne attack cannot be used during pregnancy or in patients with colitis during use pregnancy must be avoided some people use topical tretinoin alone if they cannot tolerate antibiotics in the gel tretinoin can help to prevent blocked sebaceous glands some patients experience a red colored irritation of the skin from using topical tretinoin this is called a retinoid flare as a side benefit of retinoids such as tretinoin they may have an anti-aging effect on the skin antibacterial substances such as benzoyl peroxide that comes as a skin cream gel or lotion can help to unblock keratin plugs in the pores another topical treatment that has been used for many years is salicylic acid which unblocks pores skin care that can aggravate your acne should be avoided the overuse of topical products can irritate your skin such as harsh toners astringents and exfoliants too much cleaning and scrubbing of the skin can cause an imbalance in the types of microorganisms on your skin your skin is covered with trillions of microorganisms including bacteria fungi and viruses which make up the skin microbiome the vast majority are friendly microorganisms which fight off the unhealthy ones and reduce skin infections picking squeezing and frequent popping can cause skin inflammation discoloration and scarring it is best avoided pore strips claim to remove blackheads but are not really that effective as they do not treat the cause of acne it is better value to see a good beautician who has expertise in acne let's look at severe acne acne that is not controlled by topical treatments antibiotic tablets such as doxycycline hormonal treatments or nutritional medicine can become more severe and can flare quickly in such a flare the acne lesions can become nodular and cystic in form in such cases it is good to see a skin specialist dermatologist who can prescribe stronger medications such as isotretinoin known also as roacutane other brand names of isotretinoin include risoderm and reticuland isotretinoin reduces the amount of oil production from the sebaceous glands this also helps to reduce the number of bacteria on the skin and reduces inflammation with the drug roacutane acne improves after about seven to ten days before this time your acne May temporarily get worse so it's important to stick with it row Accutane capsules are taken once or twice a day one row Accutane treatment course usually lasts four to six months with one to two capsules taken daily row Accutane can have quite a few side effects which you need to discuss with your doctor before starting it for this reason row Accutane is sometimes stopped early note that row Accutane cannot be taken by women in the reproductive age group unless they avoid pregnancy as it can cause birth defects the success rate of isotretinoin is very high with four out of five people having clear skin after treatment it really is an amazing drug for a large cystic acne lesions that persist some dermatologists inject the lesions with a steroid which is effective and gets rid of it let's look at hormonal treatment for acne acne usually first manifests during puberty when the levels of the hormones called androgens surge this is why hormone treatments that reduce the production of androgens or block the action of androgens can work very well especially in females hormonal treatment is not used in younger men as the Androgen testosterone is required for growth and sexual development in men firstly let's look at the hormonal treatment of the oral contraceptive pill the oral contraceptive pill increases the liver's production of sex hormone binding globulin which binds and inactivates androgens such as testosterone and many women find their acne reduces greatly when they are on the oral contraceptive pill the brand and type of oral contraceptive pill chosen is important and it is best to choose a more feminine type of oral contraceptive pill that does not contain an androgenic progesterone good feminine brands of the oral contraceptive pill for reducing acne include Yaz which contains the hormones drosperinone and ethanol estradiol or Diane 35 which is also called Brenda 35 Juliet 35 Estelle 35 and Layla 35 quite a trendy pill the oral contraceptive pill chosen needs to contain estrogen to be effective for acne as estrogen reduces the level of androgens and increases levels of sex hormone binding globulin note that the progesterone only pill also known as a mini pill or the Implanon contraceptive implant will not reduce acne this is because they do not contain estrogen let's look at another hormonal treatment called cyproterone acetate ciproterone is a synthetic hormone that lowers the levels of testosterone in the body and also blocks testosterone from acting on the testosterone receptors on cells thus ciproterone blocks the production and action of testosterone ciproterone is very effective for hormonal acne if ciproterone is taken by itself it is still very effective for hormonal acne but can cause reduction or irregularity of the of the menstrual cycle one can cause birth defects in The Unborn Child So effective contraception is vital while using ciproterone to control acne daily doses vary and can be from 5 to 20 milligrams daily with higher doses being needed initially to get acne under control and then the dose can be reduced it is important to know that lowering testosterone can cause changes in mood and energy and some women complain of depression and fatigue when on ciproterone however it can be reduced to much lower doses which could still control acne and not affect the mood so much sepra terrone is used in low doses in the oral contraceptive pill brand called Diane which we have discussed previously in Diane 35 ciproterone is combined with estrogen and provides contraception as well as excellent acne reduction several double-blind clinical studies published in reputable medical journals including archives of Dermatology have proven that cyproterone in an alcohol solution or liposomal solution is effective as a topical treatment to control mild to moderate hormonal acne this is good news as topical ciproterone is far less likely to cause mood changes than oral forms this requires a doctor's prescription let's look at another hormonal treatment that of spironolactone spironolactone is a drug that is used to treat high blood pressure and fluid retention but it also happens to be moderately effective for acne spirinolone reduces the level of Androgen hormones which in turn reduces excess sebum and acne generally spironolactone can reduce acne by 50 but is not as effective as ciproterone spironolactone is a diuretic and can make you urinate more often so it is best to take it in the morning spironolactone can cause the blood pressure to lower slightly and because of this can cause dizziness during the first few days you're taking it it is generally well tolerated but side effects such as elevated potassium levels low sodium breast tenderness irregular menstrual cycles and nausea can occur when taking spironolactone take precautions not to get pregnant as it may affect the baby like ciproterone there is no concern for a long-term risk of birth defects once you have stopped the spironolactone it is recommended that you stop spironolactone or ciproterone for three months before trying to get pregnant spironolactone or separitarian is not prescribed to treat acne in men due to side effects from blocking testosterone such as breast growth spironolactone is generally considered safe for healthy women in the 21st century acne can be controlled and scarring prevented this is such a relief for sufferers and I remember how it was 50 years ago when very little was available today we have so much to offer acne is considered generally as a Teenage affliction but adult acne has long existed acne is often unpredictable and it is difficult to know when people will outgrow acne and what its course will be adult acne can be treated the same way as teenage acne acne vulgaris can be confused with acne rosacea which affects the face especially the cheeks nose and Chin in rosacea there may be flushing dilated blood vessels capillaries redness Burning Sensations small cysts and red lumps acne rosacea is not hormonal and there are important differences between acne rosacea and acne fulgaris and we will discuss acne rosacea in a later video so I hope you've enjoyed listening to this video and I really hope it helps you very much because acne is such an awful problem to have when you're a teenager it's great to know that your acne can be fully controlled
