TL;DR:

The facial oil is as thin as water and made with squalane, vitamin C, and rose extract to hydrate and brighten skin.

I love a good facial oil. But I didn't always use the stuff. Mostly due to the fact that I didn't know how to use them. Plus, as someone who has combination skin with a touch of sensitivity, I always followed the notion that oil equaled more oil(-y skin).

But then one day, I was chatting with a dermatologist over the phone for a story, and she mentioned the importance of applying a facial oil. "Depending on the type of oil applied, a layer of oil on top your moisturizer not only locks in the skin-care products before but also adds extra antioxidants to the skin," she told me.

Taking her tip to heart, I went home and rummaged through the facial oils that were collecting dust on my vanity. After washing my face, I applied essence, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and then lightly patted on a rosehip oil to seal it all in.

Now, months later, I've upgraded my rosehip oil for Biossance’s Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. Not because there was anything wrong with rosehip (no shade to the antioxidant-packed oil), but after trying Biossance's fluid-like elixir, there was no going back.

That's because the Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil isn't your typical, run-of-the-mill facial oil — it's made with a cocktail of good-for-your-skin ingredients that do more than just hydrate. Sure, there's squalane, a plant-derived ingredient to boost moisture in the skin, but there's also an oil-soluble form of vitamin C to brighten skin and target dark spots. Oh, and there's rose extract, which also helps with the whole radiance thing.

When applied to skin post-moisturizer — lightly pressed into all areas of my face and neck — my thirsty skin drinks it up. It leaves behind a bit of a wet, sticky feeling as it's being absorbed, but quickly dries down before it's time to apply sunscreen and makeup. Actually, I've found that when I'm applying my BB cream after I've used the oil, my skin looks dewier and glowier — never oily. So, it turns out that facial oils really aren't the enemy here.
