I recently read an article with the title “Have Acne? Best Medication Is Clean Hygiene.” This made me wonder how many other people think acne is a hygiene problem. Probably a great many, I concluded. Why else do people sometimes scrub their faces raw to try and get rid of it?

The truth is, acne is not related to hygiene. Although it is important to wash your face once or twice a day if you have acne, it has nothing to do with dirt. more…

Acne affects nearly everyone at some point in their lives. While some people get it a lot worse than others – for example some get large outbreaks with cysts and papules while others rarely get a single spot – most will experience acne. Of course you can also get it as an adult but it is much more common during teenage years.

the amount of myths that surround acne is huge. These come from well-meaning but uninformed people who manage to spread these myths so they become part of our culture. A good example is the myth that chocolate causes acne. This is shown to not be the case, and in fact it may in fact help your acne to eat chocolate because it reduces stress. more…

Although acne is not fatal, this usually troublesome skin condition can lead to extremely unattractive scars on the skin. There are many causes of acne and there are also different types, the most common of which is the so called acne vulgaris. While this skin condition is common among adolescents during puberty, many adults also suffer from it. Since acne can unfortunately bring with it embarrassment and humiliation, especially to teenagers, healing acne, as well as knowing the many causes of acne, is something that should be taken into serious consideration.

Acne is an extremely prevalent skin condition affecting many people globally but does not just affect the young. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.

Our sebaceous glands produce oil called sebum which fouls up the hair follicles and contributes to acne but this is not the only substance responsible. The oil clogged inside the pore, not on the outside of the skin is what makes a pimple although bad acne is more of a contemporary problem and not a condition people in the past generally had to worry about. more…

Acne vulgaris is the full name of a condition that is more than just common and widespread. Acne is a disease of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands that is manifest with or without tissue inflammation. In fact the common name of pimples or zits applies to acne lesions, and they trouble the majority of adolescents as well as a very large number of adults in their mature years. Most of the time, body intoxication, unhealthy diet and hormonal imbalances are among the main factors that generate this skin disease.

The shoulders, the neck, the face and the upper back are the body parts most exposed to acne outbreaks, but in very serious and extended cases, people get acne even on their head skin. The acne symptoms and the aspect of the lesions are the elements that allow the diagnosis of a certain type of acne over another. The severest form is cystic acne which poses challenges both by the pain that accompanies it as well as by the treatment difficulty, since, besides the external pimples, there are cysts present in the deep layers of the skin. more…

There are lots of follicles beneath the skin on your face and in the regions immediately about it. When they get inflamed, along with the tissues surrounding them, they cause the blackheads to appear. This is mostly how acne begins in most sufferers. In some it is over in a few years, and their skins grow back to normal. For others though, it could last the rest of their lifetime.

When sebum is accumulated beneath your skin, you are well on your way to having a serious bout of acne. Often times you never notice the process while it happens, but shortly after the accumulation is done, degradation by bacteria begins. Often that is when you see the black head, and then the phenomenon forms a cyst. Now you have acne. more…

Blackheads are caused by hair follicles that have become blocked by sebum (oil) and dead skin cells. The black colour of blackheads is due to the mixture that is blocking the hair follicle (i.e. oil, and skin cells) being exposed to the air in the atmosphere, which causes it to become oxidised. It isn’t due to trapped dirt, as many people assume.

Even though this article details a black head remover solution (see below), the most effective method to get rid of blackheads is to remove their root cause (i.e. excessive sebum and dead skin cells). To do this, you should only use products made with natural ingredients, and which aren’t too astringent. Harsh products strip the skin of oil, causing it to produce more sebum, which in turn leads to more blocked follicles. more…
