Removing Acne Scars
Acne Scars develop if an infection develops in acne and the skin repairs itself enough to remain healthy but unfortunately leaves discoloured and / or indented marks on the affected area, removing them can be both difficult and costly to remove.
There are a lot of over the counter ‘cures’ for acne scars ranging from oils and creams to microneedling. The most regularly used treatments for acne scars are the creams or skin masks which can (but not always) be affective but take a long time for improvements to start to show as a big percentage of these creams don’t get absorbed by the skin. Therefore creams are often wasted and so are not economical.
An alternative product that can be purchased for acne scar removal is the skin roller. This is a roller for micro-needling; you roll the collagen roller over the scarred area of skin opening the pores of your top layer of skin (epidermis) making it believe that it is damaged activating the production of collagen and elastin which eventually heals the damaged skin.
Once the derma roller has been used the pores on the top layer of skin (epidermis) stay enlarged for as long as so this is the best time to apply creams as they are much better absorbed when the pores are open as opposed to when the pores are closed. This reduces the waste in creams and increases the effectiveness of the derma roller.
There are more extreme methods to reduce acne scars however these are all expensive and have to be carried out by professionals and then they’re not even guaranteed to work! These include; Micro dermabrasion, laser treatments, chemical peals and also skin needling can be done by a professional more vigorously using a longer needle size and numbing cream.
In my experience in treating acne scars I have found that the most result effective and cost effective treatment is derma rolling at home as it is relatively cheap and as it works by inducing the healing process is the most natural way to heal acne scars.
