7 Acne Treatments to Avoid
Since acne is, by far, the most prevelent disease in the world, I’m constantly amazed at the amount of wrong information that is passed around about acne treatments. There are so many commonly held beliefs involving treatment for acne which have no scientific or medical validity. Yet they continue to be passed on as fact. Even worse is the possible results of trying some of these options.
Here is a list of common acne treatments that do not work:
1. Household cleaning products, even at a diluted level, should not be used as a treatment for acne. There can be severe problems that arise, including chemical burns, from pursuing this route.
2. Home facial saunas will do nothing for your acne. They can, however, be aggravating to skin that is already sensitive.
3. Sticky tape left on the skin overnight and removed in the morning will certainly remove some dead skin cells and excess oil, but is likely to damage the sensitive skin, as well as causing an allergic reaction to the tape.
4. While the rays from the sun are beneficial, prolonged exposure to them (or using a tanning bed) is not advised. As a matter of fact, it can even be dangerous if you are also taking certain types of oral medications. As an example, taking some antibiotics in tablet form, can cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun.
5. Sudocrem is an excellent treatment for nappy rash, but is not effective when it comes to acne. This is mainly because it contains a mixture of greases and oils, which are bad for acne.
6. Like the sun, vitamins A and B (in lower amounts) are beneficial for your general health and your skin’s health. However, in amounts that are too large, they can have side-effects.
7. Squeezing your acne is universally not recommended in combating acne. Doing so will prolong and cause the acne to spread to other areas that had not been infected.
There are many other “not recommended” acne treatment regimes, many of which will worsen an already difficult condition. Avoid these shortcuts and stick with a program recommended by your medical professional, or one which is founded on solid scientific and medical evidence. If you do this, you’ll succeed in overcoming your acne condition.
